How to spot a bad Pittsburgh Steelers coach
Coach Steve Spagnuolo has been the subject of a number of media reports this season, and as usual, the focus of most of the coverage is on the issues that have arisen.
But there’s one thing that is almost universally overlooked when it comes to the coach, which is the way he coaches.
It’s easy to be a bit smug and say, “I’m not going to be as objective as he is about how he coaches”, but that’s not the way to do things.
If you want to be fair to Spagnulos coaching record, then you need to take a look at how he coached in his first full season in the league, and you’ll find that the results were not what you would expect from a player that has played for the likes of the San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and even the New England Patriots.
But what you may not know is that the guy who has spent most of his time in the NFL as a coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the past two years has been a head coach before, and it’s a pretty different coach than he is now.
In his first season as a head coaching candidate in 2010, Spagnulo was able to make the Pittsburgh Steelers a contender in the AFC North, but he also lost the team’s divisional playoff series against the Pittsburgh Panthers in 2013.
When the Steelers needed a coach in 2014, the only head coach available was Joe DeCamillis, who was fired after just one season in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers hired Mike Tomlin in February 2015 and he quickly became the Steelers head coach.
However, the Steelers were able to go 10-6 the rest of the season, including a Super Bowl appearance.
The next season, they made the playoffs in the wild card round, but Spagnolo and Tomlin were out of the playoffs.
In 2015, the Pittsburgh offense was so good that it was enough to push the Denver Broncos into the playoffs, but after the season the Steelers lost to the Denver Colts in the first round.
In 2016, Spagins first season in charge, the defense lost to Green Bay, and he was fired by the team on March 31, 2017.
Then in 2017, he was replaced by Tomlin and the Steelers made the Super Bowl.
This season, the first time the Steelers went 7-9, Spags first season was also his first year as a coach.
It was the first year that he was able go 8-8 and make the playoffs despite the fact that the Steelers had a weak offensive line and a weak defense.
The second season of the coach was also the first season that he didn’t have to coach a game for the team, but that didn’t mean he was doing nothing either.
He also coached the offense in his second season, but was able in his third year to go 6-9 and the playoffs as well.
The next season in 2018, the offense struggled again and the defense was in the playoffs again, but the Steelers only went 5-10.
This season, Spaggins second year as head coach was a success, but it was also a failure to make a Super-Bowl run in his final season.
Spagnuolos second year in charge of the Steelers was a failure, but what’s the point of being a coach if you don’t win?
The second season was not a successful one for the Steelers.
In fact, the team went 8-6.
However, the results weren’t what most people would have expected from a team that has struggled in every single year in the last decade, and the team also lost to both the Denver and Pittsburgh in the Super-bowl, both of which are the two teams that won the Superbowl in Spagnolos tenure.
And if you were hoping for a second consecutive Super Bowl run, then it was a disappointment to say the least.
Spagnola was able play a big part in helping the Steelers get to the Super bowl in 2017 but he was unable to help them win it in 2018.
What do you think?
